Knocked Down Door
Bio - Troy Montgomery

I always had a deep desire and passion for music. I listened to the lyrics and melodies and wondered “wow” someone felt strong enough about a part of their life to take the time out to write words and stories from the heart and just completely bare there inner most soul, record it, and bring their story to life. That was all it took for me to fall in love with music and the power it exerted. I began writing lyrics from my heartbreaks and stories of my life through my eyes told with my interpretation and perspective since I was 24 years of age; now, 45, I have been doing it for a while.

My back ground was rooted deep within the hills of Kentucky where my family was born and raised. My family played all instruments; I grew up on Bluegrass straight from hillbilly’s that my family was. When we had family gatherings our family would set out on the porch and play bluegrass and all the old classics. They were great at it and everyone enjoyed it. I lived in Kentucky for a while when I was just a baby then my family moved down to Florida where I was raised.

There was a long line of music in our family’s blood. Though I did not really grow up with some of my cousins since my family moved from Kentucky to Florida when I was 3 years of age, I had a family of talented musicians. Later Kentucky produced John Michael Montgomery in 1992; I was proud of him and wished it was me on TV and the radio, but I was not ready for that. Later in 1999 his brother Eddie Montgomery landed his record deal with his friend Troy Gentry. Eddie and Troy grew up together. My aunt used to baby sit Troy as my aunt worked with Troy’s mom at a hair salon when Troy was a baby. Sony records heard about the pair of Outlaws through his brother John. John was a big star and had influence enough for the record company to drive to Lexington, Louisville area where they saw Eddie and Troy perform. All the record company could say was “Hell Yeah” end of story.

I grew up with some very talented musicians and started learning from people like the late “Hughie Thomasson” of the “Outlaws Tampa bays guitar Army” and he was also part of Legendary “Lynyrd Skynyrd” and toured with them for 9 years. Since I was 16 years old he was a big influence on me growing up and a friend.

Later I was blessed to meet and work with one of the most talented and amazing song writers to date, the great “Jon Olivia” from the rock group “Savatage” which was on Atlantic records like most of the rock groups in the 80’s. Savatage had huge success for 20 some years and sold well over 30 million records to date. Jon Olivia currently writes most of the material for “Tran Siberian Orchestra” which has sold multiple platinum albums and was ranked 7th most successful tours in 2003 brining in over $11 million that year. During December and January you see the Coors Light Beer commercial the “Mad Russian Winter.” That is Trans Siberian Orchestra. Jon Olivia currently tours the world as “Jon Olivia and his Pain Band;” Jon has 11 platinum albums, multiple Gold albums and many prestigious awards as an artist. Jon is a very accomplished world renowned artist and musician. Jon and I teamed up in 2004 and 2005; we worked for 2 years and we created a demo album consisting of 11 Tracks. Currently I continue to work with some great writers such as the “Rebel Pride Band” and many more other talented writers. I really enjoy the business side of music which is really “ugly” but like I said I enjoy the challenge of breaking into the main stream music world and working with promising acts as I meet them and continue to help them develop and further there career.
